First, I’ll say I’m very glad to be here. I have been looking forward to this day since I first got word that Vincent had been born.

We had a birthday party for him today. As most people know, however, a child’s first birthday is more for the parents, since (A) the child doesn’t really know what’s going on, and (B) the parents deserve recognition for keeping the kid alive & well for his first year. This might sound like the bragging of a proud father (and it is), but in our case it was just Kelly doing the nurturing, sheltering, holding, rocking, bathing, and changing. I will always regret that I couldn’t be here for most of Vincent’s life. And whether she realizes it or not, she really did an amazing job. I wouldn’t exactly say she filled my shoes, because every child deserves a daddy. But she definitely did a two-parent job with one-parent resources.
