Hard Earned Toys

I find myself exhausted every single night. After eating breakfast and playing in the morning we have hung out with friends or gone to gymnastics, then headed to the old house to empty it and clean it. The end is in sight, but there is still more to do.

The kids have been really helpful, thankfully. A funny thing happened this week. On Monday we went to Target to, once again, pick up a few essential things. While we were there I allowed them to aimlessly wander around the toy aisle. They had already picked out their bins of toys and Legos to keep in the travel trailer, but I didm’t mind them browsing. They, of course, each found a toy they desired. One by one they each asked if there were any extra chores they could do to earn these toys.

As I thought about it I realized that we would have to have the old house deep cleaned before the renters moved in. I told the kids they could each do a set number of chores to earn the money. All of the chores mentioned were above and beyond those that they normally did on a weekly basis (scrub base boards, clean out the fridge, clean out OUR bathroom, sweep the garage, etc). On Tuesday and Wednesday the kids worked for hours. The fridge looks amazing, the baseboards are sparkling white, the door frames are spotless. It’s safe to say, they earned their toys.

When we returned to our home this evening they each opened up their hard earned toys and played for hours.
