My how times have changed

Daddy joined us for a tea party. #bestpartifourweek Brian deployed for the first time in June 2004. That was only 8 years ago, but times have changed since then. They have changed. a. lot. During the birth of Vincent I had to call the Red Cross and notify them of our son’s impending birth. The info traveled through various chains and a day or so into my labor (I was in labor for THREE days after all) I got a phone call from Brian. Through out the rest of my labor he called when he could and by fate he happened to call just minutes after I gave birth to Vincent. Regular phone calls were far and few between. If I missed one, I was devastated. I had no idea how to get a hold of him or when I’d hear from him again. Fast forward to today. While Brian is technically not “deployed” he is away in a foreign country and will be away for a year. He has the ability to Skype on a regular basis. While we celebrated Kenniston’s 6th birthday at a restaurant (Chuy’s, in case you were wondering), I was able to call Brian on Skype. He sang “Happy Birthday” to Kenniston and watched as she blew out her candles. All of this happened on my iPhone (have I mentioned how much I LOVE my iPhone???). It was awesome and so different from just 8 years ago. We have really taken advantage of this regular communication. At least every other day Brian calls us to Skype, often times he is able to do our daily devotional, or just chat. Today he took part in the kids’ tea party. Something so simple and such a regular occurrence around here, and yet he was able to participate. I love it!!
