Oh Ruby…Ruby. Ruby. Ruby.

I was talking to Brian on the phone most of the evening.  The kids and I had a fairly long day of science camp, then swimming with friends, so I thought for sure I could have an uninterrupted conversation with my husband.  I was wrong.  Around 10:30 pm, yes, you read that right, TEN THIRTY Ruby walked into my room to ask me if I could take her hair pretty out.  I was perplexed as to why she was still awake, but I took the hair pretty out and told her to go to bed.  Shortly after that Brian and I said our good byes and I called my friend Nicole back to let her know that we would be having science camp the next day.

As I chatted with her on the phone I heard the girls talking in their room.  By this time it was almost 11:00 and I wasn’t too pleased.  I walked in and noticed Ruby standing in her room deer eyed staring at me.  I knew I had just taken her hair pretty out, but I thought her hair still looked “off.”

Right away (while still on the phone mind you) I asked if she cut her hair.  She was quick to reply with “yes.” Nicole let out a giggle on the phone.  She also has kids.

The girls do not have a light in their room (you may recall a certain ceiling fan incident a while back, don’t worry, that will be replaced soon!!!), but I did turn on the closet light.  I could see that the hair cut was pretty short in the front, but until I got in the regular light, I was unable to see the full extent.  I could not help but to let out a gasp when I saw Ruby’s shortened butchered hair.
Have you seen the movie Joe Dirt?  Yeah, it pretty much looked like that.  Ruby had cut her hair (then placed it in the trash can, really kid??  You do a naughty choice then decided to ever so neatly put the evidence where it belongs…) then decided to take a plastic doll brush and brush her hair.  If you have ever brushed curly hair, you know that a hard small plastic doll brush will FRIZZ hair.  So imagine my beautiful 4 year old with hair CUT DOWN TO THE SCALP all across the bangs and then only about an inch of hair down the right side of her face, then massive frizz all in the back.  It was all business in the front and party in the back.

Don’t try to picture this in your head, just look at this.

yup, she was in trouble.

We had A LOT of plans the next day, but there was no way I was leaving the house with her hair looking like Joe Dirt.  No way.  So I took the time to cut her hair to a normal kid short curly look before we left.  It turned out ok.  I am just glad she is so beautiful.  🙂

She can rock the short look.
