Second Trimester!!!

It seems like it took forever to get here, but Sweat Pea and I are finally here! I feel so much better. After a fairly smooth first trimester with Vincent, I never imagined having such a sick and crazy time with any other pregnancy. This time around I was sick on a daily basis…at times I vomited, I couldn’t leave the couch, and I went days with out eating meat because the mere thought made me sick to my stomach. My poor family had a lot of patience during that time. I hardly visited our office, much less updated this journal. I am very happy to feel better as I would hate to miss the opportunity to journal this pregnancy.

Here is a little bit of an update on Sweat Pea:
Baby is now 3 to 4 inches long and weighs an ounce or two. If I could hold his or her hand, I would notice the squiggly lines that make up his or her one-of-a-kind fingerprints. I would also see veins and vital organs beneath the tissue-thin skin. Sweat Pea will spend the rest of the pregnancy concentrating on growing and becoming strong enough to live outside the uterus. The intestines have now moved from the umbilical cord to inside the abdomen. While Sweat Pea won’t be saying “Mommy” or “Daddy” for some time, vocal cords are now developing. He or she has also developed many reflexes and will squirm inside of me if my abdomen is prodded.

Nausea is pretty much gone for now!!! If I don’t eat when I first get hungry, nausea does return, but otherwise it is gone. My uterus is now a little larger than a grapefruit and I am definitely starting to show! My “transition pants” have been my best friend lately and I will probably wear maternity clothes all the time starting very soon. Although I am showing, I am still down 2 pounds – I am not complaining! I have read studies that have proven that unborn babies can hear as early as 10 weeks into the pregnancy, so Brian has already starting talking to him or her. Every night after prayers Vincent gives “baby” kisses before going to bed. He loves pulling my shirt up and saying “baby,” no matter where we are!
I am pretty sure I have felt movement already. Every once in a while I feel a little bit of a flutter. I know it is not gas (trust me, I know that feeling), and it happens in random parts of my lower abdomen just below my belly button, so I am pretty sure it is movement. I am getting more and more excited about meeting Sweat Pea.
