Does anyone remember this video?
We came to you, our friends and family, and asked that you help serve the homeless community of Nashville by donating socks. We could have purchased socks ourselves and taken them there, but wanted to show the kids what it was like to reach out and share a need with other people. We wanted them to know that God serves needs by providing other believers who like to bless others.
The out pouring of support was amazing to say the least. Y’all blessed the Nashville homeless community in a big way. We collected 3 very large bags full of socks (and a few pair of underwear and panties – both of which were very appreciated). We were also given donations which enabled us to purchase 12 sleeping bags and 50 mylar blankets. The mylar blankets are special blankets that help hold in heat, something that is absolutely necessary for someone who is sleeping outside when it is 30*!
The Bridge Bunch is a group of people whose goal is to help the homeless community of Nashville. They work together to help meet the needs of the community. Three days a week they provide a meal for this community. They meet, as you may guess, under a bridge.
We joined the Bridge Bunch this Friday to help them serve lunch. The kids jumped in right away to help pass out sandwiches, drinks, cupcakes, cocoa, coffee, and mylar blankets. They greeted each person with a smile and enjoyed every bit of it, despite the chilly weather.
I am glad we had the chance to spend some time with Pastor Bob. It was great to hear about his ministry and all they are doing to serve the community.
Even though our actual time spent here was short, I do hope the love of Jesus was shown in all we did. It was our sincere prayer during this entire trip.
Please pray for this community of people. I had the chance to chat with “Mary and Arthur” for a little while. They are from the area and live in a community of other people without homes. Pray for their future. Pray they learn a job skill that can lead them to steady income. Also, please pray for their current situation. Sleeping in bitter cold and being hungry is miserable.
