I (Brian) had the honor of taking the boys to visit the Battleship Texas. It’s the last surviving ship of its kind and served in both world wars. The boys and I had a great time exploring the ship and learning about her history.
We went along with our scout troop from Belton, Texas, and the cool thing about going as a group is the overnight stay. But this wasn’t any sort of hotel or resort. In fact, it was a great opportunity to experience the same conditions the sailors did who served aboard the ship. Bathrooms were limited, the mess hall was cramped, and the beds… well, the beds were cots hanging from the ceiling via chains. It gave us a profound appreciation for the service and dedication of the sailors of those eras.
